Hi friend,
If you've scrolled social media in the last week, you've probably seen the clip — a podcast host saying she'd have strapped her kids to her back just to get them somewhere she wasn't, and that she doesn't trust anyone who wants to be with their own kids all day. Homeschool families have had a lot to say about it. But this week, I wanted to talk to a different mama in that conversation: the one who felt a flicker of guilt, not because she agrees with the clip, but because she's had days where she genuinely needed a break from her kids — and wondered what that meant about her.
In this episode, I get honest about a fall I had earlier this month — completely undramatic, nothing dramatic to tell, but it's left me with mobility issues that have thrown off our whole season. I talk about what that's taught me about rest, about Philippians 1:6 and what it really means to be equipped, and why respite is something to plan for on purpose, not something to feel guilty about.
EP 73: "I've Had It Too": Why Needing a Break Doesn't Make You a Bad Mom

Paul wrote those words while he was in chains — not exactly a season that looked "equipped" from the outside. And yet he was confident, not because his circumstances had changed, but because he trusted the One doing the work in him. I think about that a lot in seasons like the one I've been in this summer, where the tools God has given me don't always make sense in the moment. Maybe your season looks like a fall like mine, or a hard stretch with your child, or just the quiet exhaustion of showing up day after day. Whatever it is, this verse isn't asking you to feel equipped. It's asking you to trust that the work already started in you is being carried to completion — one ordinary, unfinished-feeling day at a time.
"Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." — Philippians 1:6 |
A prayer for you:
Lord, thank You that You have equipped me for exactly the season I'm walking through, even on the days it doesn't feel like it. When I don't know how to use the tools You've given me, remind me that Your promise isn't a feeling — it's a finished work You're carrying out in me. Give me the grace to rest without guilt, to ask for help without shame, and to trust that needing a break doesn't mean I love my family any less. Thank You for seeing me in the small, undramatic moments too. Amen.
