When You're Too Exhausted to Even Take Your Vitamins (Listen to This)

Speaking Life Into Motherhood EP 33
Dear Mama,
I see you there, running on fumes. You know you should drink more water, take your vitamins, maybe even eat breakfast before noon—but some days just brushing your teeth feels like a victory, doesn't it?
Last week's podcast episode is for you, sweet friend.
I sat down with Bethany Thomson, a registered dietitian and Christian life coach who knows exactly what it feels like to sit in a doctor's office unable to breathe, being told "it's just stress." Bethany walked through severe burnout while caring for four kids born within five years—dealing with dyslexia, speech therapy, food sensitivities, generational trauma, and her own undiagnosed health crisis.
But here's what makes this conversation so hope-filled: Bethany found her way back. Not through adding more to her plate, but through simple, grace-filled rhythms that honored her whole self—body, mind, and spirit.
In this episode, you'll hear:
The three simple nutrition steps that can transform your energy (starting with just one glass of water)
Why protein at breakfast is a game-changer for reactive moms
How to anchor yourself spiritually when Bible study feels impossible
The "Planting Trio"—three intentional daily actions that create momentum without overwhelm
Why feeling safe in your own body changes everything about how you parent
EP 33: God Cares About Your Nutrition: Why Energy Starts with Faith-Filled Self-Care
Mama, Jesus doesn't ask you to white-knuckle your way through exhaustion. He doesn't require you to have it all together spiritually before you tend to your physical needs. His invitation is to rest—to learn from Him in gentleness, not striving.
Bethany reminded us that God cares about what you eat for breakfast. He cares about whether you're hydrated. He cares about your need for magnesium and your child's meltdown and the fact that you can't catch your breath. Tending to your body isn't selfish—it's stewarding the temple where the Holy Spirit dwells.
Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is eat protein within an hour of waking up.
Sometimes anchoring ourselves in one simple truth—"God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all"—is enough for today.
Sometimes we need to rest in the grace of enough.
"Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." — Matthew 11:28-30
Let's Pray Together:
Heavenly Father, we come to You weary and depleted. We confess that we've been running on empty, trying to be everything to everyone while neglecting the body and soul You've given us. Forgive us for believing the lie that rest is selfish. Help us receive Your invitation to come and find rest in You. Give us wisdom to take one small step today—maybe it's drinking water, maybe it's eating breakfast, maybe it's simply breathing and remembering You are near. Thank You that Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. Help us trust that tending to ourselves is part of loving our families well. We acknowledge our longings, we celebrate small growth, and we rest in the grace of enough. In Jesus' name, Amen.

My Simple Daily Routine
Speaking of keeping things simple, I want to share what's helped me stay consistent with supporting my body as both a mama and business owner. I use doTERRA's VMG (Vitality, Minerals, and Greens) system every single day. It gives my body the daily vitamins, minerals, and greens it needs without me having to think about ten different supplements or remember which bottle is which.
On those mornings when I'm rushing between kids' needs and client calls, knowing I've already given my body what it needs helps me feel like I've done something for myself—even on the most chaotic days. The entire Foundational Wellness System become one of those "set it and forget it" routines that actually sticks because it's so straightforward.
If you're struggling to stay consistent with supplements (or even remember to take them!), sometimes simplifying down to one system instead of juggling multiple bottles can make all the difference.

Remember, sweet mama: You're doing better than you think, and your children are blessed to have you fighting for them every single day. It's okay to take care of yourself too—in fact, it's necessary.
Have a topic you want discussed? Interested in being interviewed on the podcast? Looking for natural solutions for your family? I'm just an email away! :) I'd love to hear from you!
You are seen. You are loved. And mama, with Christ by your side, you are enough.
Blessings, Elyse
P.S. - Bethany's reminder is one I'm writing on a sticky note for my bathroom mirror: "Acknowledge the longings, celebrate the growth, rest in the grace of enough." What if you gave yourself permission to do just that today?
