This week on the Speaking Life podcast, I had the privilege of speaking with Brigid Tebaldi, a functional women's health coach who specializes in helping mothers heal from birth trauma.

There's something profoundly beautiful about how God uses our most difficult experiences to draw us closer to Him. When we experience trauma—whether in childbirth or other life events—we often feel abandoned, forgotten, or like we've somehow failed. These are the very moments when Jesus is closest to us, though we may not recognize His presence until later.

Think about a difficult moment in your life. Where was Jesus? Was He holding your hand? Standing beside the hospital bed? Weeping alongside you? Sometimes the greatest healing comes not from forgetting our painful experiences, but from seeing them through new eyes—eyes that recognize the presence of our Savior even in our darkest hours.

Our bodies carry the memory of trauma, but they also carry the capacity for remarkable healing. Just as Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." He offers that rest not just for our souls, but for our bodies too—the very bodies that may have experienced trauma, but are nonetheless "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14).

A Prayer for Healing

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today I bring before You the broken places in my story—the moments where I felt alone, afraid, or like my body had failed me. Where I felt shame, Lord, replace it with Your grace. Where I felt abandonment, show me how You were there all along.

I ask for Your healing touch on both my body and spirit. Calm my nervous system when it reacts from old wounds. Help me to practice gentle self-care not as a luxury but as stewardship of the body You've given me.

Help us to be gentle with ourselves as we navigate motherhood. Remind us that even in our imperfection, we are exactly the mothers our children need. And that our healing journey matters not just for ourselves, but for our families too.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
